A Look into 2014: 4 Geeky, High Tech Glasses

A Look into 2014: 4 Geeky, High Tech Glasses

2014 might just be the most revolutionary year for eyewear. With so many impossibly good ideas in the making, we think there’s very much to look forward to! So let’s just skip the introduction and go straight to the exciting part: five new technologies developed to give you a better experience in everything you do. No more regular glasses for you!

1. Color blindness correction sunglasses.

Developed by EnChroma, these classic (and rather stylish) looking sunglasses are actually color blindness correctors. They increase the colorfulness of traffic and road signs, allowing for a quicker reaction of the driver. But they’re not made just for driving: imagine what a wonderful thing it is to experience the colors of flowers or rainbows for the first time!

2. 3D Space Glasses.

Starting this July, you’ll be able to but Meta’s Space Glasses for around $3,000. The Portola Valley, California, engineers developed an interface for augmented reality, or hologram. It combines the power of a laptop and a smartphone, which, the developers believe, will soon become a thing of the past. All your devices are virtually moved into a pair of glasses.

3. Glasses that make you see.

Wonderful news for the visually impaired: soon, they’ll be able to see! It kind of makes you think of Gerodi La Forge’s VISOR, doesn’ it? The intelligent eyewear was developed for the legally blind, who will finally see the world as it is. The eSight glasses allow people to set zoom, contrast, and color setting for near, far and in between activities. They’re designed for people with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, Stargardt’s disease, ocular albinism, Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, Cone-Rod dystrophy, glaucoma and other eye conditions.

4. Revolutionary eyewear rivaling Google Glass.

Innovega says about their product: “Whatever runs on your smartphone would run on your eyewear.” The iOptik system (contacts and glasses) allows the wearer to see and interact such things as driving information, messages or videos. “The benefit of simultaneously offering vision correction is particularly important to Asian consumer segments where the prevalence of nearsightedness is near twice that of their non-Asian counterparts,” the co-founder of the company states.
